2009 BALTIMORE, MD -- The Washington College women's rowing team won both women's events at this morning's Caspersen Cup regatta in Baltimore, MD. The Shorewomen combined with the Shoremen, who won all three men's events, to finish first in the overall point standings and win the cup in the annual regatta against Johns Hopkins and St. John's (MD) College. In the women's varsity eight, Washington's first varsity eight won the race in 7:26.39, Johns Hopkins was second in 7:40.85, the Shorewomen's second varsity eight was third in 7:50.47, and St. John's was fourth in 7:54.04. In the women's varsity four, the Shorewomen took first place in 8:00.31, followed by Johns Hopkins in second in 8:22.72 and St. John's in third in 8:32.13. Sophomore Susanne Vaughn (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) was the coxswain for the Shorewomen's first varsity eight. Junior Ericka Malow (Brunswick, OH/Brunswick) sat stroke, senior Jenna Lapointe (Newark, DE/Newark) was in the seven seat, sophomore Sarah Holland (Towson, MD/Notre Dame Prep) was in the six seat, junior Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) sat in the five seat, junior Emily Hofler (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) was in the four seat, freshman Kendall Mulligan (Southbury, CT/Westover School) sat in the three seat, sophomore Christine Lynch (Lincoln University, PA/Avon Grove) was in the two seat, and junior Caroline Perry (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) was the bow. Freshman Kelsie Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) served as the coxswain of the Shorewomen's second varsity eight. Sophomore Catherine Black (Kimberton, PA/Academy of Notre Dame) sat stroke, freshman Sarah Ruh (New Preston, CT/Kent School) was in the seven seat, freshman Diane Hagman (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) sat in the six seat, freshman Ellen Liebenow (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) was in the five seat, freshman Brigid Lally (Bowie, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) sat in the four seat, junior Sarah Strickland (Potomac, MD/Holton-Arms) was in the three seat, freshman Aziza Temple (Framingham, MA/Framingham) sat in the two seat, and senior Nicole Rousseau (Burlington, CT/Miss Porter's School) was the bow. Junior Krista Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's varsity four. Lapointe sat stroke, Malow was in the three seat, Smith sat in the two seat, and Holland was the bow. The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a home regatta against fellow Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference member Franklin & Marshall. |
