Shorewomen Compete at Navy Day Regatta
Malow & Lapointe Win Three-Boat Race in Open Pair

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Washington College women's rowing team opened its fall competition today at the Philadelphia Navy Day Regatta. The Shorewomen raced a boat in the women's open pair and two boats in the women's college four. Junior Ericka Malow (Brunswick, OH/Brunswick) and senior Jenna Lapointe (Newark, DE/Newark) won the three-boat open pair race, completing the 4,000-meter course in 18:39.80.

Villanova's "A" boat was second in the open pair in 19:19.20, while the Villanova "B" boat was third in 19:47.40.

Sophomore Susanne Vaughn (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) was the coxswain for the Shorewomen's "A" boat in the women's college four, which finished 19th of 20 boats in 19:06.10. Junior Emily Hofler (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) sat stroke, sophomore Christine Lynch (Lincoln University, PA/Avon Grove) was in the three seat, sophomore Catherine Black (Kimberton, PA/Academy of Notre Dame) sat in the two seat, and senior Nicole Rousseau (Burlington, CT/Miss Porter's School) was the bow.

Junior Krista Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) served as the coxswain of the Shorewomen's "B" boat in the women's college four, which finished 20th in 19:19.00. Georgetown's "A" boat won the race in 16:50.30, while Pennsylvania's "C" boat was second in 16:55.70. Sophomore Sarah Holland (Towson, MD/Notre Dame Prep) sat stroke, junior Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) was in the three seat, freshman Kendall Mulligan (Southbury, CT/Westover School) sat in the two seat, and freshman Sarah Ruh (New Preston, CT/Kent School) was the bow.

The Shorewomen's two fours were two of the only three Division III boats in the race.

The Shorewomen return to action next Saturday at the Head of the Charles regatta in Boston.
