Shorewomen Compete at Navy Day Regatta
Washington Rows in Quads, Double, Singles

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Washington College women's rowing team opened the fall regatta schedule today at the Philadelphia Navy Day Regatta. Washington rowed two quads, three singles, and a double at the event over a 4,000-meter course.

The Shorewomen finished second and third of three boats in the women's club quad. Washington's "A" boat was second in 18:39.10, while the "B" boat was third in 20:59.40. Peter Jay Sharp Rowing Club won the women's club quad in 17:42.10.

Sophomore Krista Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) served as coxswain of the Shorewomen's "A" boat in the women's club quad. Sophomore Caroline Perry (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) sat stroke, sophomore Ericka Malow (Brunswick, OH/Brunswick) was in the three seat, junior Jamie Beaber (Littleton, CO/Littleton) sat in the two seat, and sophomore Emily Hofler (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) was the bow.

Senior Shelley Holtmann (Laurel, MD/Atholton) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's "B" boat in the women's club quad. Freshman Sarah Holland (Towson, MD) sat stroke, freshman Meagan Stenger (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) was in the three seat, junior Elizabeth Thorpe (Davis, CA/Davis) sat in the two seat, and junior Nicole Rousseau (Burlington, CT/Miss Porter's School) was the bow.

Freshman Catherine Black (Kimberton, PA/Academy of Notre Dame), sophomore Lauren Jakubowicz (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), and senior Laura Ratz (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) competed in the women's club single. Black finished sixth in 21:33.20, Jakubowicz was seventh in 22:27.20, and Ratz was eighth in 22:57.40. The three Shorewomen were the only collegiate rowers in the event as they raced against five club entrants. Rowers from Vesper Boat Club took the top three spots in the women's club single.

Senior Becca Kain (Hagerstown, MD/St. James School) and senior Courtney Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) competed for Washington in the women's club double, finishing seventh of seven boats in 21:27.80. Lehigh won the event in 18:46.50.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday, October 27th, at the Head of the Schuylkill regatta in Philadelphia.
