Bears Down Shorewomen In Double OT, 11-10
Jakub and Parrish Tally Three Goals Each in Loss

COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- Lindsay Urban scored with 12 seconds left in double overtime to lift host Ursinus College past visiting Washington College, 11-10, on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference women's lacrosse action at Eleanor Frost Snell Alumnae Field. The Bears improved to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 5-5 and 0-4 with the loss.

Urban's game-winning goal came when she drove down the right side and her shot found its way into the right side of the goal to give the Bears the victory in sudden-death.

After Ursinus scored the opening goal of the game, the Shorewomen netted four unanswered goals in a span of 8:38 to take a 4-1 lead. Sophomore attacker Sarah Cannon (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) scored on a free position shot to tie the score at 1-1 with 23:32 left in the first half. Cannon scored her second goal in 42 seconds when she finished off a pass from sophomore midfielder Sam Ohrem (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield). Washington made it 3-1 on a tally by freshman defender Caroline Stanley (Freeland, MD/Hereford) with 14:15 left in the opening 30 minutes. 21 seconds later Washington capped the run on a goal by freshman attacker Kalli Parrish (Timonium, MD/McDonogh School).

The Bears responded with five consecutive goals to grab a 6-4 lead with 7:46 remaining in the opening half on a Urban goal. Five different Ursinus players scored during the spurt. Washington finally snapped the run on a free position tally by senior midfielder Brittany Lambert (Riva, MD/South River) with 6:07 left in the first half. Urban gave the Bears the two goal lead back, 7-5, at the 3:36 mark completing a feed from Elizabeth Cannon to close out the first half scoring.

Ursinus bumped its lead to 8-5 just 42 ticks into the second half on a Kim Peifer goal from Alyssa Thren. Washington netted the next three goals to even the tilt at 8-8. WC cut it to 8-6 on an unassisted goal by senior attacker Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College DC) and 8-7 on an unassisted tally by Parrish. Jakub tied the game with 17:10 left with Cannon chalking up the helper. Thren gave the Bears the lead back 54 seconds later to make it 9-8. Thren then tallied a free position goal with 13:54 remaining to put Ursinus up 10-8. Parrish scored her third goal of the game 61 seconds later to trim the lead to 10-9. The Shorewomen leveled the game at 10-10 with 7:24 left in the second half when Alex McBride's clearing pass was blocked by Jakub right outside of the crease and the ball crossed the goal line to tie the contest. Neither team could score the rest of regulation and the game went to overtime.

The two teams entered overtime knotted at 10-10. Neither side scored in the opening three minutes of the first overtime, but both teams had quality scoring chances in the final 30 seconds of the first three minutes. In the second three minutes of overtime, sophomore goalkeeper Amber Madore (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) made a save with 43 seconds left on a free position shot. The Shorewomen had a chance to win it on the last shot, but Lambert's shot was turned away by McBride just before the buzzer.

For Ursinus, Urban and Thren each netted three goals on the day, while Peifer added two. In net, McBride made eight saves.

Jakub and Parrish both scored three goals to lead the way for Washington. Cannon had two goals and one assist, while Ohrem led all players with two assists. Madore made 19 saves in goal and broke the school's single game record for ground balls, scooping up 10.

Ursinus held a 42-27 edge in shots and won 15 of the game's 25 draw controls. The Bears held a slim 23-22 advantage in ground balls in the contest and committed just 15 turnovers to 27 for Washington. The Shorewomen were just 15-for-30 in clears, while the Bears were 10-for-13. In free position chances, WC was 2-for-7, while Ursinus was 1-for-11.
