#15 Seahawks Soar Over Shorewomen, 17-10
Jakub Tallies Five Goals In Defeat

ANNAPOLIS, MD -- #15 St. Mary's College (MD) got a game-best six goals from Allie Zerhusen en route to a 17-10 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over Washington College on Thursday night at Broadneck High School. The Seahawks' (3-1) Lauren Carrier netted three goals and scored in her 46th consecutive game, an NCAA Division III women's lacrosse record. The Shorewomen (1-1) got five goals from senior attacker Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College, DC) in the loss.

Washington opened the game's scoring when Jakub took a pass from fellow attacker, sophomore Sarah Cannon (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) just 2:16 into the contest to put the Shorewomen up 1-0. Nora Fallon-Oben evened the score at 1-1 with 25:29 left in the first half as she finished off a Kelsey Branch feed. Emily Norris gave the Seahawks a 2-1 lead, a lead they would not relinquish, 93 seconds later tallying an unassisted goal and 40 ticks later Allie Zerhusen connected on a free position shot to make it 3-1 with 23:16 to go in the opening stanza. Jakub cut the St. Mary's lead to 3-2 when she scored her second goal of the tilt with sophomore midfielder Sam Ohrem (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) tallying the assist just 52 seconds later. Zerhusen extended the lead to 4-2 when she scored her second goal of the game, with Branch recording the helper with 19:59 to go in the first 30 minutes.

The Shorewomen cut it to 4-3 with 8:32 remaining in the opening half on a tally by senior midfielder Brittany Lambert (Riva, MD/South River). Norris made it 5-3 Seahawks off of a pass from Audrey Mirkin just 21 seconds later. Carrier gave St. Mary's a 6-3 lead when she finished off a pass from Branch with 5:23 left in the first for her first goal of the game and put her in the record books. The Seahawks would take a 6-3 lead into halftime, despite being outshot 16-7. However, they won eight of the 10 draw controls in the first. Colleen Simpson of St. Mary's turned away nine WC shots in the opening 30 minutes.

In the second half, St. Mary's led 9-5 with 19:55 remaining before taking total control of the game with six straight goals over an 8:46 stretch of the second half to take a 15-5 lead with 9:05 to go on a free position goal by Hannah Cooley. Carrier and Zerhusen each totaled two goals during the spurt. Washington countered with three straight goals to cut it to 15-8, the last one coming from Cannon with 5:42 to go. The Seahawks netted the next tally to make it 16-8, but the Shorewomen got the next two to trim the St. Mary's lead to 16-10 with 2:54 remaining on a goal by sophomore defender Catilin Morrison (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood). The Seahawks made it 17-10 on a free position shot with 90 seconds to go by Laura Leigh Cooper to close out the scoring.

St. Mary's also got four goals from Norris, while Branch handed out three assists, which tied for the game-high. For Washington, Lambert netted three goals, while Cannon dished out three assists, tying for tops in the contest. Ohrem notched two assists for the Shorewomen. Lambert and Zerhusen each won five draw controls in the game.

Washington outshot St. Mary's in the game by a 31-24 margin, but St. Mary's won 17 of the games 29 draw controls. The Seahawks cashed in on 7-of-9 free position shots, while the Shorewomen connected on just 1-of-4. Simpson racked up 14 saves in the contest, while Washington's Amber Madore (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) made four saves in 46:41. Also seeing time in goal for the Shorewomen was junior Tara Hart (Baltimore, MD/Garrison Forest), who played 13:19 in the cage.

The Shorewomen return to action on Monday with a 10:00 a.m. Central Time (11:00 a.m. Eastern Time) game versus Oswego State in San Antonio, TX.
