28, 2009 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior attacker Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College, DC) scored four goals and sophomore attacker Sarah Cannon (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) handed out five assists as host Washington College breezed past visiting Frostburg State, 15-3, in its women's lacrosse season opener this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. Washington scored 58 seconds into the game on a goal by senior midfielder Brittany Lambert (Riva, MD/South River) and never looked back. The Shorewomen held a 6-1 lead 10:17 into the game and an 8-1 lead at halftime. Jakub's four goals led a quintet of Shorewomen with multiple goals as Lambert, sophomore midfielder Sam Ohrem (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield), and freshman attacker Rachel Bartee (Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll) each scored two goals and had one assist and sophomore midfielder Liz Cumberpatch (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis), who also had a game-high eight draw controls, tallied two goals. Cannon scored one goal to go along with her five assists, while junior midfielder Allie Hanzsche (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) and freshman attacker Kalli Parrish (Timonium, MD/McDonogh) also scored one goal each. Elisabeth Hildebrand scored two goals for the Bobcats (1-1), while Megan Dent-Carman scored one. Sophomore goalie Amber Madore (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) played the first 50:13 in goal for Washington, allowing two goals and making seven saves. Junior Tara Hart (Baltimore, MD/Garrison Forest), making her collegiate goalkeeping debut, went the rest of the way, allowing one goal and making one save. Erin Morrell played the first half in goal for Frostburg, making four saves and allowing seven goals. Tori Butts played the second half, making 14 saves and allowing eight goals. The Shorewomen held a 43-13 advantage in shots in the game and a 29-19 edge in ground balls. Washington also controlled 13 of the game's 20 draws. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. game at 18th-ranked St. Mary's (MD). |
