2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's lacrosse team scored the first 11 goals of the game and never looked back en route to a 21-4 non-conference win over visiting Wesley this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shorewomen, whose 21 goals are the most they have scored in a single game in over four years, improved to 5-5 overall, while the Wolverines fell to 4-5. Washington held a 12-2 lead at halftime after scoring 10 goals in the first 13:53 of the game. Eleven different Shorewomen scored goals in the win, led by junior attacker Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College, DC), who scored four goals and assisted on two others. Junior midfielder Brittany Lambert (Riva, MD/South River) handed out a game-high four assists to go along with one goal. Sophomore midfielder Jamie Jones (Glen Arm, MD/Loch Raven), freshman midfielder Liz Cumberpatch (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis), and sophomore midfielder Allie Hanzsche (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) each scored three goals. Hanzsche also tallied two assists, while Cumberpatch had one. Senior midfielder Jenna Gouck (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) scored two goals and controlled a game-high eight draw controls. Freshman attacker Sarah Cannon (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) added one goal and three assists. Freshman goalie Amber Madore (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) made 12 saves in the win for the Shorewomen, who outshot the Wolverines, 39-18, in the contest. Washington went 15-of-18 on clears in the game, while Wesley was just 9-of-23. Stephanie Johnson led Wesley with three goals in the game. Washington's 21 goals represented the most the Shorewomen have scored in a single game since putting up a school record-tying 24 in a win over Muhlenberg on March 27th, 2004. The 17-goal margin of victory was one off the school record set during a 21-3 win over Swarthmore on March 18th, 1991. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Haverford. |
