Mules Too Stubborn For Shorewomen, Win 15-13
Jakub With Three Goals and One Assist For WC

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Muhlenberg College scored three of the final four goals to snap a 12-12 tie en route to a 15-13 victory over host Washington College on Saturday afternoon at Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium in Centennial Conference women's lacrosse action. The Mules improve to 8-3 overall and 3-3 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 6-6 overall and 1-4 with the loss.

The Mules snapped the tie with 6:00 left when Ruth Morrongiello received a Taylor Armstrong pass to take a 13-12 lead just 28 seconds after the Shorewomen had tied the score. Armstrong led all players with seven assists in the tilt. Exactly 60 seconds later Muhlenberg made it 14-12 when Morrongiello found Rachael Goldstein, who put it past Washington freshman goalie Amber Madore (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake). The Shoremen cut it to 14-13 on a goal by junior attack Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College (DC) with 3:37 left. The Mules regained a two-goal lead with 63 seconds left when Armstrong found Amanda McGovern to provide the final margin.

In the first half, the teams were knotted at 3-3 when Muhlenberg scored the final six goals of the half to take a 9-3 lead into intermission. During the 6-0 run, six different Mule players scored, while Armstrong dished out three assists during the spurt.

In the second half, the Shorewomen scored six of the first seven goals to trim the deficit to 10-9 with 16:26 remaining in the game. Junior midfielder Brittany Lambert (Riva, MD/South River) scored two of the six WC goals during the run.

Muhlenberg would score the next two goals both by Alyssa Bascelli off of Armstrong feeds to make it 12-9 with 9:49 to go in the contest.

Washington would score the next three goals in a span of 2:25 to knot the game at 12-12. Jakub made it 12-10 on a pass from senior attack Megan Rainey (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) with 8:53 to go. The hosts cut it to 12-11 on a tally from freshman attack Sarah Cannon (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) 48 seconds later with Jakub picking up the assist. The Shorewomen evened it at 12-12 with 6:28 remaining when Jakub received a Rainey pass and put it past Muhlenberg goalie Allisyn Vachon.

For Muhlenberg, Morrongiello scored four goals to lead all players. McGovern and Bascelli added three goals apiece for the visitors. Sara Hiller and Goldstein each deposited two goals for the Mules.

For Washington, Jakub led the team with three goals and four points. The team got two goals each from Cannon, Lambert, freshman midfielder Liz Cumberpatch (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) and senior midfielder Jenna Gouck (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) fired in two goals each for the Shorewomen. Rainey had two assists in the game.

Vachon made 11 saves in the victory for Muhlenberg, while Madore turned away nine shots for Washington. The Shorewomen held a 30-27 shot advantage, while draw controls were even at 15-15. The guests were 17-for-24 in clears, while the hosts were 16-for-20 in clears. The Mules held a slight 24-22 edge in ground balls.

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game against visiting Swarthmore.
