Green Terror Top Shorewomen, 15-13
Jakub Leads Shorewomen with Five Goals, Two Assists

WESTMINSTER, MD -- Brittany Baer scored seven goals and assisted on another to lead host McDaniel College past visiting Washington College, 15-13, in a Centennial Conference women's lacrosse game this afternoon in Westminster, MD. The Green Terror improved to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 4-5 and 0-3 with the loss.

McDaniel got off to a quick start, scoring the first four goals of the game to take a 4-0 lead on a goal by Baer off an assist from Kelly Scheler with 19:19 left in the first half. The Shorewomen rallied to score the next four goals, knotting the score on an unassisted goal by junior attacker Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College, DC) with 14:00 left in half. The Green Terror moved back in front 58 seconds later when Baer scored.

The Shorewomen tied the score again, this time at 5-5, on a goal by freshman attacker Sarah Cannon (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) off an assist from freshman midfielder Sam Ohrem (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) with 9:13 to play before halftime. McDaniel responded by scoring the next two goals to take a 7-5 halftime lead as Scheler found Kerrie Wuenschel with 8:41 remaining and Lindsey McDonald netted an unassisted tally with 3:14 to go before the break.

McDaniel scored a pair of early second-half goals to extend its lead to 9-5 as Chelsea Ferruzzi scored 38 seconds into the period and Baer fired in a free position shot 1:09 later. The Shorewomen got back on the board with 25:50 to play when Jakub scored off an assist from senior midfielder Jenna Gouck (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) to trim the lead to 9-6. Washington cut the lead to one goal when Gouck scored with 17:51 left to make it 9-7 and freshman midfielder Page Allen (Annapolis, MD/Calverton School) scored with 14:17 left to cut the margin to 9-8. The Green Terror ended Washington's three-goal run when Ferruzzi scored with 11:01 left to push the lead back to 10-8, but the Shorewomen answered 41 seconds later as junior midfielder Brittany Lambert (Riva, MD/South River) found Jakub for a goal to make it 10-9.

Baer pushed the lead back to two goals by scoring with 9:39 remaining to give McDaniel an 11-9 lead. Gouck netted a free-position goal to make it 11-10 with 8:21 left, but the Green Terror answered again as Baer scored off a feed from Kristin Mele with 7:51 remaining. McDaniel pushed the lead to three goals when Shaena Smith scored off an assist from Baer with 4:49 remaining to give the Green Terror a 13-10 cushion. Baer scored off an assist from Wuenschel 47 seconds later as the Green Terror matched their biggest lead of the game at 14-10. Freshman midfielder Liz Cumberpatch (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) fired in a goal for the Shorewomen with 3:41 left, but Wuenschel scored off an assist from Sarah Mintz with 2:24 to go to make it 15-11. Jakub scored off an assist from Gouck with 1:47 remaining and netted an unassisted goal with five seconds left to provide the final margin.

Wuenschel, Ferruzzi, and Scheler joined Baer as multiple-point getters for McDaniel as Wuenschel finished with two goals and two assists, Ferruzzi had two goals, and Scheler scored one goal and notched two assists.

Jakub led the Shorewomen with five goals and two assists. Gouck had two goals and two assists, while Cannon and Allen scored two goals each for Washington.

McDaniel held a 41-33 advantage in shots in the game. McDaniel goalie Sarah White made 13 saves, while WC freshman Amber Madore (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) made 11 stops for the Shorewomen.

The Shorewomen return to action Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. home game against Wesley.
