2008 BALTIMORE, MD -- Visiting Washington College jumped out to an 11-3 halftime lead and led by as many as 11 goals in the second half en route to a 15-10 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over host College of Notre Dame (MD) this afternoon in Baltimore. The Shorewomen, who got four goals from junior attacker Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College, DC), improved to 2-1 with the victory. The Gators dropped to 0-1 with the loss. Washington scored five unanswered goals in a span of 5:14 late in the first half to go up, 11-2, and blow the game open. Washington's biggest lead was 14-3 following a goal by freshman midfielder Page Allen (Annapolis, MD/Calverton School) with 13:25 remaining in the second half. The Gators scored seven of the game's final eight goals to get back within five goals by the end of the contest. Jakub and junior midfielder Brittany Lambert (Riva, MD/South River), who scored three goals and assisted on another, were the only two Shorewomen to scored multiple goals as 10 Washington players got in on the act. Freshman attacker Sarah Cannon (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) scored one goal and had four assists, while Allen and senior midfielder Alli Luchey (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) each had one goal and one assist. Senior midfielder Jenna Gouck (Randolph, NJ/Randolph), senior attacker Megan Rainey (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding), junior midfielder Shiori Tachiwana (Sagamihara, Japan/Gaigo), sophomore midfielder Jamie Jones (Glen Arm, MD/Loch Raven), and sophomore midfielder Whitney Donald (Kingsville, MD/John Carroll) scored one goal each. Lauren Terry scored four times for Notre Dame in the loss, while Anne Shippen finished with three goals and three assists. Tina Money, Amanda Hubbel, and Amelia Yatto each scored one goal for the Gators. Washington enjoyed a 35-21 advantage in shots in the game, including a 27-8 advantage in the first half. The Shorewomen return to action Friday night with a 7:00 p.m. home game against Sweet Briar. |
