2003 LANCASTER, PA -- The Washington College women's lacrosse team fell to 12th-ranked host Franklin & Marshall, 15-6, in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship game this afternoon. The Diplomats (14-5) outscored the Shorewomen (14-6), 8-0 in the second half to take control of the game. The Shorewomen held an early 2-0 lead before F&M scored five unanswered goals in the first half to go up 5-2. Washington rallied to pull within one by the break, however, as junior midfielder Minta Sayres (East Haddam, CT/Westminster School) found junior attacker Janet Studdiford (Wyndmoor, PA/Springside School) for a goal to make it 7-6 as time expired in the first half. The second half was controlled by F&M as the Diplomats held the Shorewomen to just seven shots in the period. Senior midfielder Betty Weller (Sudlersville, MD/Queen Anne's County) and junior attacker Casey Sawma (Conway, MA/Stoneleigh-Burnham) each scored twice in the loss for WC. Studdiford had one goal and two assists. Freshman midfielder Emmy Hyde (Gaithersburg, MD/Watkins Mill) accounted for the Shorewomen's other goal. F&M's Lauren Paul scored five goals and assisted on another, while Alexis O'Meara had three goals and three assists and Danielle Jones had four goals and one assist. BOX SCORE
