1, 2009 DOVER, DE -- Host Wesley College took a 2-1 lead in the first half and held on to that margin for the rest of the game en route to a win over visiting Washington College in the field hockey season openers for both teams tonight in Dover, DE. Junior attack Danielle Rosato (Narvon, PA/Pequea Valley) put the Shorewomen on the board first with 17:06 left in the first half off an assist from sophomore attack Emily Trees (Kensington, MD/Connelly School of the Holy Child). The Wolverines evened the score as Sheree Pleasanton knocked in a rebound with 15:12 remaining in the period and took a 2-1 lead with 9:51 on the clock on a Brooke Tadlock goal. The Wolverines maintained a 10-2 advantage in shots in the second half and a 21-6 margin for the game. Sarah Johnson made three saves in the win for the Wolverines, while senior goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) recorded 10 stops in the loss for Washington. Wesley also held a 13-4 advantage in penalty corners in the game. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. game at Randolph-Macon.
