Wolverines Edge Shorewomen, 1-0

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Wesley College scored the only goal of the game with less than seven minutes remaining to top host Washington College, 1-0, in a non-conference field hockey game tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.

Neither team got much offense going near the goal in the first half, though Washington (1-1) controlled possession for the bulk of the period and held a 3-2 edge in shots at the break.

Wesley (1-1) turned the tables in the second half, holding a 7-5 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in penalty corners. The Wolverines broke the scoreless tie when Brooke Bennet scored off a direct penalty corner off assists from Brooke Tadlock and Amber Tank.

The Wolverines held a slim 9-8 margin in shots for the game and a 7-6 advantage in penalty corners. Sarah Johnson made four saves in the win for Wesley, while junior goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made five stops in the loss for the Shorewomen.

The Shorewomen open Centennial Conference play this Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. game at McDaniel.
