Shorewomen Lasso Mustangs, 3-0
Rutkowski Records Two Assists in Win

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Sophomore defender Sara Rutkowski (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) assisted on two goals as host Washington College defeated visiting Stevenson University, 3-0, in a non-conference field hockey game tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shorewomen improved to 3-1 on the season with the win, while the Mustangs fell to 3-4.

Washington held an 8-0 advantage in shots and a 13-1 edge in penalty corners in the first half. Senior attack Candace Gaull (Laurel, DE/Laurel) scored the only goal of the period on a blast from just inside the circle after receiving a penalty corner from Rutkowski with 10:33 remaining before halftime.

Rutkowski also assisted on the Shorewomen's second goal of the game, sending a long pass into the middle of the field to sophomore attacker Danielle Rosato (Narvon, PA/Pequea Valley), who sent the ball in with 18:21 to play in the second half. Senior midfielder Amy Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills) redirected then made it 3-0 when she fired in a loose ball with 16:52 on the clock.

Washington held a 16-2 advantage in shots in the game as Stevenson did not record a shot until just under six minutes remained in the contest. The Shorewomen also enjoyed an 18-6 edge in penalty corners.

Junior goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made two saves in 64:36 of action for Washington. Sophomore Shannon Davis (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) played the rest of the game between the pipes for the Shorewomen. Kara Zimmerman made seven saves for the Mustangs in the loss.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Muhlenberg.
