2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior attack Jaimie Barlow (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) scored three first-half goals to lead host Washington College to a 4-0 blanking of visiting Randolph-Macon in the field hockey season opener for both schools this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. Barlow gave the Shorewomen a 1-0 lead with 24:57 left in the first half when she sent in a reverse chip from 10 yards out off a feed from senior midfielder Amy Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills). Barlow's second goal came with 21:22 remaining in the half when she sent scored off a pass in front of the goal from junior attack Kristin Bircsak (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown). Barlow completed her first-half hat trick when she sent a reverse blast in off an assist from senior attack Candace Gaull (Laurel, DE/Laurel) with 10:45 to go before the break. Bircsak provided the only goal of the second half when she knocked in a loose ball in front of the cage with 12:25 left in the contest. Washington peppered the Randolph-Macon defense with 38 shots in the game, while limiting the Yellow Jackets to just 12 shots. The Shorewomen also held an 18-6 advantage in penalty corners. Junior goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made nine saves for Washington to pick up her fifth career shutout. Ashley Crouch played the first 61:50 of the game in goal for Randolph-Macon, recording 20 saves while allowing four goals. Kortney McLaughlin played the rest of the game between the pipes for the Yellow Jackets and made three saves. Becky Clark tallied two of the Yellow Jackets' three defensive saves in the game. The Shorewomen will host Delmarva area rival Wesley College Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
