Rutkowski Tallies First Career Goal as WC Wins Eighth in a Row

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College field hockey team extended its best-ever start to a season to 9-1 this afternoon with its eighth straight victory, defeating visiting Moravian College, 3-0, in a non-conference game on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shorewomen's eight-game win streak is their longest since winning nine games in a row in 1997.

Senior midfielder Amy Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills) gave the Shorewomen a 1-0 lead when she fired in a loose ball with 18:09 left in the first half. Washington held a 13-1 advantage in shots in the period.

The Shorewomen got their second goal when sophomore attack Danielle Rosato (Narvon, PA/Pequea Valley) scored after receiving a tip pass from sophomore defender Sara Rutkowski (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) with 20:12 remaining in the game. Rutkowski tacked on Washington's third goal when she scored her first collegiate goal off a long feed through the circle from Rosato with 4:59 to play.

Junior goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made two saves in the win for Washington, while Maura Acox made eight saves for Moravian (4-7). Washington held a 23-4 advantage in shots and a 14-4 advantage in penalty corners in the game.

The Shorewomen, who have now posted as many victories this season as in the previous two combined, return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at third-ranked Johns Hopkins.
