Fords Foil Shorewomen, 3-1
Rutkowski Scores Goal in Loss

HAVERFORD, PA -- Host Haverford College topped visiting Washington College, 3-1, in a Centennial Conference field hockey game this afternoon in Haverford, PA. The Fords improved to 8-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen dropped to 9-5 and 4-4 with the loss.

Margaret Selsor opened the scoring for the Fords with a goal off a rebound with 26:29 to play in the first half. The Shorewomen held a 10-6 advantage in shots in the first half.

Roxanna Joffe gave Haverford a 2-0 lead when she converted a penalty stroke with 21:20 to play in the game. The Shorewomen cut the lead back to one goal soon after as sophomore defender Sara Rutkowski (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) scored off a pass from senior midfielder Amy Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills) with 19:03 remaining.

Josie Ferri regained the Fords' two-goal cushion with just 7:47 left in the game when she finished off a pass from Juliana Morgan-Trostle to make it 3-1.

Haverford held a 15-13 advantage in shots in the game. Maggie Cronin made three stops in goal for the Fords in the win, while junior goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made seven saves in the loss for Washington.

The Shorewomen return to action one week from today with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Bryn Mawr.
