26, 2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Junior attack Kelsey Kemp (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) scored the only goal of the game with just over five minutes remaining to give host Washington College a 1-0 Centennial Conference field hockey win over visiting Franklin & Marshall tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shorewomen, off to their best start since 1997 at 6-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play, equaled their win total from all of last year with the win. The victory was also the first for Washington against the Diplomats (3-5, 0-2) since 2002, snapping a five-game losing streak in the all-time series. Neither team scored in the first half, though Washington held a 9-2 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in penalty corners in the period. The Shorewomen broke through with 5:12 left in the game on a penalty corner as sophomore defender Sara Rutkowski (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) sent the corner to sophomore attack Danielle Rosato (Narvon, PA/Pequea Valley), who passed it to Kemp. Kemp then tipped the ball in the goal for the game-winner. Washington held a 16-6 advantage in shots and a 15-3 edge in penalty corners in the game. Junior goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made six stops for Washington, while Jennifer Burdo made seven saves for F&M. The Shorewomen's last win against the Diplomats came in the form of an identical 1-0 final on October 19th, 2002. The Shorewomen return to action Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. game at Mary Washington.
