2008 BRYN MAWR, PA -- Senior defender Cora Jo Spare (North East, MD/North East) netted her first career goal and added an assist as Washington College downed host Bryn Mawr, 8-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Shillingford Field in Centennial Conference field hockey action. The Shorewomen improve to 10-5 overall and 5-4 in conference, while the Owls drop to 1-15 and 0-10 respectively. Washington got onto the board with 16:05 left in the first half when junior attack Kristin Bircsak (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) scored from the right side to put the visitors up for good. Sophomore attack Danielle Rosato (Narvon, PA/Pequea Valley) made it 2-0 when she finished off a pass from senior midfielder Amy Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills) with 6:59 remaining in the opening half. The Shorewomen made it 3-0 with 58 seconds left in the first half when Spare's pass was corralled by Rosato and she netted her second goal of the opening half. The Shorewomen netted five goals in the second half to provide the final margin. Spare completed the scoring with 6:12 left when she beat a few Owl defenders and chalked up her first career goal on an unassisted tally. Washington got a career-best three goals from Rosato and one goal and one assist from sophomore defender Sara Rutkowski (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser). Also scoring for Washington was junior midfielder Kelly Tancredi (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven). Spadanuta had a goal and a career-high two assists, while freshman midfielder Gussie Reilly (Buck Hill Falls, PA/Mercersburg Academy) had her first career assist and point in the triumph. Junior goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) and sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Davis (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) each made one save to combine on the shutout for the Shorewomen. Bryn Mawr's Elizabeth Toft turned away 18 shots before being relieved by Caitlin Evans. Washington held a 29-4 advantage in shots and a 17-2 advantage in penalty corners in the game. The Shorewomen, who snapped a four-game losing streak, return to action Saturday in the home fianle at 1:00 p.m. against visiting Dickinson in a Centennial Conference tilt.
