18, 2007 OWINGS MILLS, MD -- Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Kemp (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) scored the game-winning goal on a penalty stroke with 57 seconds remaining in the game to give visiting Washington College a 3-2 non-conference field hockey win over host Villa Julie today in Owings Mills, MD. The Shorewomen improved to 3-2 with the win, while the Mustangs fell to 1-5 with the loss. Villa Julie took a 1-0 lead with 28:13 left in the first half on a goal by Krissy Leventis. Washington tied things up with 9:28 left in the period when junior attack/midfielder Jaimie Barlow (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) scored off a pass from sophomore defender Courtney Clemmens (Baltimore, MD/Towson). The Shorewomen went up, 2-1, when Barlow found junior attack Candace Gaull (Laurel, DE/Laurel) for a goal with 7:08 remaining before halftime. The Mustangs knotted the score with 16:58 left in the second half as Leventis scored off a pass from Jennifer Sauers. Kemp then scored her game-winner with less than a minute on the clock. Washington held a 28-12 advantage in shots in the game, but Villa Julie enjoyed a 14-12 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made seven saves for the Shorewomen, while Kara Zimmerman tallied 15 stops for the Mustangs. The Shorewomen return to action Friday with a 4:30 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Franklin & Marshall.
