Seahawks Sink Shorewomen, 5-2
Gaull, Rosato Score in Loss for Washington

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting St. Mary's (MD) College scored five times on 14 shots en route to a 5-2 win over host Washington College in a non-conference field hockey game tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Seahawks improved to 8-2 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 4-6 with the loss.

St. Mary's took a 1-0 lead when Amanda Bramble sent a pass inside the circle to Marianne Wood, who knocked the ball in for the goal, with 17:26 left in the first half. Washington tied the score at 1-1 when sophomore midfielder Kelly Tancredi (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) took a shot that went off the pads and through the legs of St. Mary's goalkeeper Emily Richards and was then corralled by sophomore attack Kristin Bircsak (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) and sent into the goal by freshman attack Danielle Rosato (Narvon, PA/Pequa Valley) with 14:33 to play in the period.

The Seahawks moved in front, 3-1, with a pair of goals in the waning minutes of the half. Mary Lyle Jeanes found Amanda Bramble inside the circle with 2:04 to play in the period and Ali Femi redirected in a shot from Wood on a fast break with 56 seconds to go in the half.

Washington cut the lead to 3-2 when junior attack Candace Gaull (Laurel, DE/Laurel) redirected in a shot off the stick of senior attack Megan Rainey (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) with 31:24 left in the second half. The Seahawks pushed the lead back to two goals when Lyles knocked in a loose ball following a defensive save by Washington junior defender Cora Jo Spare (North East, MD/North East) with 17:49 on the clock. Wood gave St. Mary's a three-goal lead when she dodged three defenders and scored with 5:00 on the clock to provide the final margin.

Washington held a 19-14 advantage in shots in the game and a 12-8 edge in penalty corners. Richards made 11 saves in goal for St. Mary's, while sophomore goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made six stops for the Shorewomen.

The Shorewomen return to action Friday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins.
