2009 DOVER, DE Host Wesley College topped visiting Washington College, 69-60, in a non-conference women's basketball game tonight in Dover, DE. The Wolverines, who shot 13-of-25 from beyond the three-point arc, improved to 6-6 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 8-2. Neither team led by more than five points in the first half and the two squads were deadlocked at 31-31 at the intermission. Wesley built a 49-41 lead with eight straight points, capped off by a three-pointer from Latasha Torres with 11:16 left. The Shorewomen scored the next six points to cut the lead to 49-47 with 9:23 left, but the Wolverines answered with the next five to make it 56-49 with 7:59 to go. The Shorewomen got back within three points at 56-53 on a lay-up by senior guard Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/Pius X) with 7:08 left, but the Wolverines scored seven of the next nine points to make it 63-55 on a lay-up by Angie Owens with 5:00 left and led by at least five points the rest of the way. Cory Boyd led Wesley with 19 points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals. Torres added 16 points while shooting 4-for-4 from long range, while Colleen Thomas scored 15 points while shooting 5-of-5 from three-point range. Owens added nine points, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots. Slizofski paced Washington with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while freshman guard Meghan Tait (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) added 13 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Jessica Jamrogowicz (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) contributed 10 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Wesley's hot shooting from three-point range helped the Wolverines overcome a 50-31 deficit on the glass. The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a 6:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at McDaniel. |
