WC Completes Season Sweep of Ursinus, 63-54
Slizofski Nets Game-Best 19 Points In Win

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Senior guard Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/St. Pius X) netted 19 points to lead all players as host Washington College downed visiting Ursinus, 63-54, on Thursday night at the Cain Athletic Center in Centennial Conference women's basketball action. The victory gives the Shorewomen the season sweep of the Bears, their first sweep of Ursinus since the 1999-2000 season. Washington improves to 10-9 overall and 5-8 in the Centennial, while Ursinus falls to 4-15 and 3-10 respectively.

The Bears came out strong and jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first 8:25 of the game with Julie Bown scoring nine of the first 17 points for Ursinus. Washington would answer with a 10-2 run to level the score at 19-19 with 6:27 remaining in the opening half on a layup by forward Julie Sherwood (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde). With the Bears up 26-24, junior guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) drained a three-pointer to put the Shorewomen up 27-26 with 1:44 to go in the first. It would be a lead that Washington would not relinquish the rest of the night. The hosts scored four more points in the half to close out the half on a 7-0 run and take a 31-26 lead into the break.

Ursinus cut the lead to 36-32 with 17:24 to go in the game, when Washington went on a 14-8 run to take its first double-digit lead of the tilt at 50-40 with 9:50 left. The Shorewomen would lead by as many as 13 on two occasions and the Bears would only get as close as eight points the rest of the way.

For Washington, freshman forward Sally O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) added 16 points and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. Jane O'Donnell chipped in with 14 points and Sherwood, in addition to leading all players with four steals, contributed 10 points to give WC four players in double figures on the night. Slizofski, Sally O'Donnell, Jane O'Donnell and Sherwood scored 59 of the hosts 63 points in the game. Junior guard Jessica Jamrogowicz (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) had a game-leading six assists.

For Ursinus, Alli Rosati had a team-best 14 and led all competitors in rebounds with eight. Bown, who scored the first seven points of the game for the guests, added 13 points, totaled a team-leading three steals and blocked a game-high three shots. Lindsay Teuber collected 11 points in the game.

Ursinus shot 40% in the game, while Washington shot 39% on the night, but the hosts hit seven three-pointers, while the Bears canned just two triples. The Shorewomen cashed in on 16-of-20 (80%) from the free throw line, while the Bears were just 8-for-13 (62%) from the charity stripe. The hosts outrebounded the guests by a 39-29 margin.

The Shorewomen travel to Lancaster, PA on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. contest against Centennial Conference rival Franklin & Marshall.
