2009 CHESTERTOWN, MD Twenty-fifth ranked Muhlenberg College used an early 17-2 run to take command of the game en route to a 79-55 Centennial Conference women's basketball victory over host Washington College this afternoon at Cain Athletic Center. The Mules improved to 14-2 overall and 11-0 in Centennial play with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 9-6 and 4-5 with the loss. The Shorewomen scored the first five points of the game before the Mules went on their run to build a 17-7 lead on a fast-break jumper by Lauren Boyle with 12:35 remaining in the first half. The Mules took a 41-21 lead into halftime. The Mules led by as many as 26 points in the second half. Boyle and Sheila Cook shared game-high scoring honors with 16 points each. Alexandra Chili added 15 points for Muhlenberg, while Kelly McKeon tallied nine points, eight assists, and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/Pius X) and freshman guard/forward Sally O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) each scored 13 points to pace the Shorewomen. Slizofski also brought down eight rebounds. Junior guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) added 11 points and three steals in the loss. Muhlenberg shot 46% from the field and 53% from three-point range in the game, while Washington shot 28% and 16%, respectively. The Mules also held a commanding 53-35 advantage on the boards. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Johns Hopkins. |
