6, 2008 CARLISLE, PA Brooke Muller netted a game-best 25 points as host Dickinson downed visiting Washington College, 63-51, in Centennial Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Kline Center. The Red Devils improve to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Shorewomen fall to 3-1 and 1-1 respectively. In the opening half, Dickinson and Washington were tied 9-9 with 11:30 left before the Red Devils rolled off six striaght points to take a 15-9 lead with 9:07 to go on a jumper by Kelsey Kraus as she rebounded her own miss. The Shorewomen would answer the Red Devils spurt with a 8-2 run of their own to even the game at 17-17 with 4:43 left in the first on a jumper by senior guard Christie Rogers (Davidsonville, MD/Archbishop Spalding). Dickinson snapped a 22-22 tie with four seconds left in the opening stanza on a pair of free throws by Carole Dempsey to give the hosts a 24-22 lead at intermission. The Red Devils led 28-27 game with 15:31 left in the game before going on a 18-6 run to grab a 46-33 lead with 9:52 remaining that was capped on a Muller three-point basket. Washington would cut it to 48-40 with 7:56 left on a layup by junior guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic), but would draw no closer. Dickinson would score 11 of the next 13 points to take its biggest lead of the game at 59-42 with 5:06 to go in the contest. Dickinson shot 52% from the field in the win, while holding Washington to 38%. The Red Devils also held a 36-28 edge on the boards. For the Red Devils, Ashley Sisco had 13 points, a game-best seven rebounds and team leading three steals in the victory, while Dempsey chipped in with 11 points and led all players with two blocks. For the Shorewomen, freshman guard Meghan Tait (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) a team-high 16 points, while O'Donnell added 10 points and two steals. Junior guard Jessica Jamrogowicz (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) led all players with six assists and four steals. Washington, who was denied its first 4-0 start since 1995-96, returns to action with its home opener against Bryn Mawr a week from today at 2:00 p.m in Centennial Conference action. |
