2009 BRYN MAWR, PA Senior guard Christie Rogers (Davidsonville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) netted a team-high 14 points as visiting Washington College topped host Bryn Mawr, 58-38, on Thursday night in Centennial Conference women's basketball action at Schwartz Gymnasium. Washington, who snapped its four-game losing streak with the victory, is now 9-5 overall and 4-4 in conference play, while Bryn Mawr falls to 1-14 and 0-10 respectively. Washington led 7-6 early in the first half before getting back-to-back three-pointers from Rogers to give the Shorewomen a 13-6 lead with 12:50 to go in the first. After Bryn Mawr cut it 13-11 on a triple from Emilie Naccarato with 11:25 left in the opening half, the Shorewomen netted the next 10 points to get out to a 23-11 lead with 7:12 to go. The Owls answered with eight straight points of their own on three free throws by Naccarato, a three from Lindsey Darvin and a Jessica Allen layup to trim it to 23-19 with 4:08 left, The guests would answer with an 11-0 run to close out the first half. Junior guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic), who hit two threes during the run, capped the run with a trifecta with 26 ticks left in the stanza and WC took a 34-19 lead into halftime. Washington shot 8-for-17 from three-point range in the first for a 47% clip. In the second half, Bryn Mawr opened the half with a 14-4 run to cut the Washington lead to 38-33 with 10:27 remaining on a layup by Allen. Allen and Naccarato each netted six points during the run. Washington would then go on a game-closing 20-5 run the rest of the way to seal the victory. The run started with a three-pointer each by junior guard Jessica Jamrogowicz (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) and freshman guard Meghan Tait (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) to build the lead back up to 11 points at 44-33 with 6:41 left that ignited the run. Tait hit a jumper with 3:32 left to give Washington a 53-36 bulge. A three-pointer by Rogers in the final minute gave the Shorewomen their biggest lead of the game at 20 points and provided the final margin. During the closing spurt, Tait netted nine of the 20 points. For Washington, freshman forward Sally O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) added 10 points in the win. Senior guard Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/St. Pius X) grabbed a game-best nine rebounds. Jamrogowicz led all players with seven assists and six steals, while totaling eight rebounds. Junior forward Julie Sherwood (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) plundered the Bryn Mawr offense for five steals. For Bryn Mawr, Naccarato led all players with 17 points and tallied a team-high three steals. Allen netted 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Caroline Heffernan corralled a team-high eight rebounds. Washington shot just 34% in the game, but shot 41% from beyond the arc, while Bryn Mawr shot just 27% in the tilt. The Shorewomen enjoyed a 40-32 edge on the boards, including grabbing 15 offensive rebounds. Washington committed nine less turnovers than Bryn Mawr, 13-to-22. The Shorewomen return to action on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. conference home game against first-place Muhlenberg. |
