Crusaders Best Shorewomen, 74-62
Slizofski Scores 19 Points in Loss

READING, PA – Host Alvernia University overcame a slow start to post a 74-62 non-conference women's basketball victory over visiting Washington College tonight in Reading, PA. The Crusaders improved to 14-7 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 10-11 with the loss.

Washington jumped out to a 20-6 lead eight minutes into the game, but Alvernia closed the half with a 16-2 run over the final five minutes of the period to take a 36-33 lead into the intermission. The Crusaders shot 12-of-14 from the free throw line, while the Shorewomen missed their only attempt of the period.

The Crusaders continued their run in the second half, opening up a twelve-point lead on a pair of free throws by Julie Hahn with 10:08 left that made the score 55-43. The Shorewomen rallied to cut the lead to four points at 57-53 on a pair of free throws by senior guard Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/St. Pius X) with 7:08 to go, but the Crusaders scored the next nine points to thwart the comeback attempt and led by at least eight points the rest of the way.

Kelli McIntyre scored 19 points for Alvernia, while Alexandra Velazquez had 14 points and 14 rebounds. Velazquez went 10-of-14 from the free-throw line in the win. Allison Toczylowski added 14 points and 13 boards, while Ana Nieves finished with 12 points.

Slizofski led Washington with 19 points and seven rebounds, while freshman guard/forward Sally O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) added 13 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Junior guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) also reached double figures, scoring 10 points. Junior guard Jessica Jamrogowicz (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) scored nine points, dished out seven assists, and grabbed seven rebounds for the Shorewomen.

For the game, Alvernia shot 28-of-34 from the charity stripe, while Washington was 7-for-10.

The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Haverford.
