7, 2008 COLLEGEVILLE, PA Host Ursinus College posted a 69-56 Centennial Conference women's basketball victory over visiting Washington College tonight in Collegeville, PA. The Bears improved to 11-9 overall and 9-4 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 9-12 and 6-8 with the loss. Ursinus led by as many as eight points in the first half and maintained a 33-29 lead at halftime. Both teams shot well from three-point range in the first half as the Bears were 4-for-8 from long distance and the Shorewomen were 6-for-9, led by a 5-of-5 performance by sophomore guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic). Washington scored the first buck of the second half to cut the lead to two points, but the Bears answered with a 10-0 run to open up a 43-31 lead following a lay-up by Carolyn Konstanzer with 15:26 remaining. Ursinus held another 12 point lead, at 48-36, with 12:25 remaining before the Shorewomen went on a 16-6 run to cut the lead to 54-52 on a jumper by sophomore forward Julie Sherwood (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) with 5:03 to play. The Bears responded by scoring the next five points to stretch the lead to 59-52 on a jumper by Sarah Hennessey with 3:49 remaining. Ursinus led by at least five points the rest of the way and scored the final eight points of the game to pull away. Hennessey and Jaclyn Hilf each scored 23 points to pace the Bears. Hilf was 4-for-8 from three-point range, while Hennessey was 3-for-5. Hennessey also dished out seven assists and grabbed five boards. Konstanzer added 10 points and eight rebounds for Ursinus. O'Donnell finished with 20 points for Washington, connecting on 6-of-7 three-point attempts. Senior guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) added 11 points, six assists, and four steals, while sophomore guard Jessica Jamrogowicz (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) tallied nine points, four assists, and four steals. Both teams finished 8-for-16 from three-point range in the game. Ursinus shot 47% from the field overall, while Washington shot 38%. The Bears held a 40-25 advantage on the boards. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Franklin & Marshall. |
