2008 WASHINGTON, DC Visiting Washington College used a 22-6 run in the second half to come away with a 58-50 win over host Trinity (DC) University in a non-conference women's basketball game this afternoon at the Trinity Center. The Shorewomen improved to 5-5 with the win, while the Tigers fell to 2-9 with the loss. Washington held a 25-20 lead at halftime, but the Tigers outscored the Shorewomen, 14-6 over the first nine and one-half minutes of the second half to take a 34-31 lead following a pair of free throws by Morgan Kellman with 10:46 remaining. The Shorewomen's 22-6 run began when sophomore guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) hit a game-tying three-pointer with 10:20 on the clock and then the go-ahead triple on the next Washington possession to give the Shorewomen a 37-34 advantage with 9:36 remaining. O'Donnell scored half of the Shorewomen's 22 points in the run, which was capped off by a lay-up and free throw from freshman forward Jessycka Wilson (Severna Park, MD/Severn School) with 2:38 remaining which gave Washington a 53-40 cushion. O'Donnell led all scorers with 16 points in the contest, while Wilson scored a career-high 13 points in 18 minutes off the bench. Junior guard Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/Pius X) added 12 points and nine rebounds, while senior guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) added 10 points, nine rebounds, and game highs of five assists and six steals. Freshman forward Nicole Wojtusik (Washington Boro, PA/Penn Manor) grabbed a career-best eight board for Washington. Preshue Jackson led the Tigers with 15 point, while Ashley West added 12 points and seven boards. Danielle Owens pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with eight points, while Sherrese Russell added 10 rebounds of her own. Washington forced 25 Trinity turnovers in the game, while committing just 16. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. non-conference game at Lebanon Valley. |
