Garnet Rally Past Shorewomen, 68-65
Late 19-6 Run Propels Swarthmore To Victory

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Ceylan Bodur's layup with 35 seconds left proved to be the winning points as Swarthmore rallied from a 59-49 deficit to beat host Washington College, 68-65, in Centennial Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Cain Athletic Center. The Garnet improve to 7-16 overall and 4-13 in conference play, while the Shorewomen fall to 9-15 and 6-11 respectively.

Washington led 59-49 with 8:00 to go following a three-point basket by senior guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) just before the shot clock was set to expire. Swarthmore would begin its 19-6 rally on a jumper by Kathryn Stockbower. The Garnet would cut it 59-55, before a triple from junior guard Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/St. Pius X) gave the Shorewomen a 62-55 lead with 5:46 remaining. Trailing 65-60, Swarthmore would score the final eight points in the final 2:01 to complete the comeback. Following baskets by Stockbower and Pamela Costello to cut the Washington lead to 65-64, the guests would take a 66-65 lead on Bodur's driving layup. Following a Shorewomen miss, Stockbower scored on a layup with 2.9 seconds left to cap the rally. Washington's half-court shot just before the final buzzer was off and ended the game.

In the opening half, Swarthmore took a 34-28 lead with 4:27 left, before the hosts went on a 10-2 run to close out the first half and took a 38-36 lead into the half.

The Garnet took a 44-43 lead with 17:23 left in the contest on a Costello layup, before Washington went on a 16-5 run to take a 59-49 lead before Swarthmore went on the final run to capture the win.

Swarthmore's Stockbower recorded her 20th double-double of the season with 28 points and 13 rebounds, both game-highs. Costello had 11 points and nine assists, just missing out on a double-double. Bodur scored 10 points for the visitors, while Laura Popovics tied Costello and Washington's Conway for the game-high in assists with nine, both career-bests for Costello and Popovics.

For the Shorewomen, Conway just missed a double-double with 14 points and tied for the lead in assists with nine. Slizofski tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) led the hosts with 19 points.

Swarthmore shot 47% from the floor in the win, while Washington shot just 34% from the field. The Garnet outscored Washington in the paint by a 44-24 margin and held a 44-38 edge on the boards. Washington outscored Swarthmore in points off turnovers, 16-10, and fast-break points, 13-8. The Shorewomen recorded 14 steals on the night, to just three for the Garnet.

The Shorewomen conclude their season on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference road game at Johns Hopkins.
