Shorewomen Run Past Owls, 53-41
WC Uses 22-4 Run To Spark Comeback

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Host Washington College used a 22-4 run in the second half to rally from a 28-21 deficit to down visitng Bryn Mawr, 53-41, in Centennial Conference women's basketball action this evening at the Cain Athletic Center. The Shorewomen improved to 7-9 overall and 4-5 in conference play with the win, while the Owls slipped to 4-13 and 1-9 with the loss.

The Shorewomen began their rally with 16:51 left in the tilt on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Jessica Jamrogowicz (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace). Washington woud take a 29-28 lead on a jumper in the paint by junior forward Amanda Sorflaten (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill). After two free throws by the Owls to retake the lead at 30-29, Jamrogowicz gave the Shorewomen the lead for good as she canned a 15-foot jumper to give the hosts a 31-30 lead. Washington extended the lead to 40-31 on a steal and fast-break layup by freshman forward Jessycka Wilson (Severna Park, MD/Severn School). The Shorewomen capped the run on a three-point goal by senior guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) to make it 43-32 with 6:29 left in the game.

In the first half, Bryn Mawr used an 11-5 run to take a 22-14 lead with 3:08 left in the stanza. The run was capped on a three-point hoop by Emilie Naccarato. The Owls took a 24-19 lead into intermission.

For the Shorewomen, Conway had a team-best 10 points and six rebounds. Jamrogowicz dished out a game-high five assists and Wilson had a career-best five steals. Conway and sophomore forward Julie Sherwood (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) each had three steals.

For the Owls, Jessica Allen had a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds, both game-highs. Caroline Heffernan grabbed 11 rebounds, while Shanika Bridges-King corralled 10 boards .

Washington shot 33% from the field in the game, while Bryn Mawr shot just 27% from the floor. The Shorewomen held the Owls to 14% shooting in the second half on 3-for-21. Washington outscored Bryn Mawr in the paint by a 26-14 margin. Bryn Mawr controlled the boards by a 48-34 margin, but committed 31 turnovers to Washington's 14.

The Shorewomen, who won their first home game of 2007-08 this evening, return to action Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. conference game at Muhlenberg.
