Weaver, McIntyre, Evans Win in Singles Play
WESTMINSTER, Md. -- The Washington College women's tennis team finished off its season with a victory this afternoon, defeating host McDaniel College, 5-4, in a Centennial Conference match. The Shorewomen conclude the season 4-12 overall and 1-9 in conference play, while the Green Terror slide to 2-15 and 0-9.
Washington won despite playing the match with just five players, defaulting at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
Sophomore April Weaver (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) and sophomore Marielle McIntyre (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom), ranked 13th in the Atlantic South region in doubles, blanked Elise O'Meara and Winsome Schauer, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles, while senior Amy Stevens (Street, Md./North Harford) and junior Emily Evans (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) topped Laura Pollard and Danielle Cloney, 8-2, at No. 2.
In singles play, Weaver, ranked 10th in singles, cruised past Schauer, 6-0, 6-0, and McIntyre won by an identical score against Pollard at No. 2. Evans added a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3. Cloney picked up a 6-2, 6-1, win for McDaniel at No. 4, while Nicole Arnold got the better of sophomore Monica Benitez (Nutley, N.J./Nutley), 6-2, 6-0, for the Green Terror's other point.
