Team Clinches Spot With Dickinson's 6-3 Victory Against Muhlenberg
ALLENTOWN, PA – The Washington College women's tennis team has secured the fifth and final seed in the 2013 Centennial Conference Women's Tennis Tournament and will travel to Haverford on Wednesday to play the fourth-seeded Fords in the first round of the conference tournament. Time of the match is to be determined and will be announced on Monday.
The Shorewomen (7-10, 5-5 Centennial), swept McDaniel, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon and needed three more results to break their way in order to make the tournament for the tournament for the third straight season. They needed Dickinson to beat Franklin & Marshall this past Thursday and Muhlenberg today and F&M to top Bryn Mawr yesterday. The Shorewomen got the results they needed from the three others matches. Dickinson edged Franklin & Marshall, 5-4, on Thursday and F&M swept Bryn Mawr, 9-0, on Friday. Dickinson downed Muhlenberg this afternoon, 6-3, in Allentown, PA to secure the spot in the tournament for Washington.
Washington, Muhlenberg and Franklin & Marshall each finished 5-5 in the Centennial Conference and 1-1 against each. The Shorewomen downed F&M, 6-3, on March 30 in Lancaster, PA, but lost to Muhlenberg, 5-4, on April 6 at home. F&M topped Muhlenberg 6-3 on March 23 in Lancaster. Washington won 10 of 18 individual matches against F&M and Muhlenberg, F&M won nine of 18 individual matches, while Muhlenberg captured eight of 18 individual matches and thus Washington won the breaker due to the most individual match wins in the two dual matches.
The Shorewomen are in the tournament for the seventh time since the conference began having the tournament in 2006.
