FREDERICKSBURG, VA -- Host Mary Washington, ranked 27th in Division III and sixth in the Atlantic South region, was a 9-0 winner over visiting Washington College in a non-conference women's tennis match today in Fredericksburg, VA. The Eagles improved to 14-4 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 4-8 with the loss.
Lindsay Raulston and Shelby Harris, the region's seventh-ranked doubles team, defeated Washington senior Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) and freshman Marielle McIntyre (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom), 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2, Mackenzie Smith and Alina Suyama were 8-5 winners over freshmen Gyeyeon Kang (Seoung Nam Si, South Korea/Westhill [CT]), while Cassie Bowman and Alexandra Ritter beat senior Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and junior Amy Stevens (Street, MD/North Harford), 8-1, at No. 3.
In singles, Raulston, the region's second-ranked player, pulled out a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, win over Weaver at No. 1. Harris beat McNicol, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2, Bowman beat Cohen, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 3, Ritter bested Kang, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4, and Christina Gaul blanked Stevens, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5. Washington defaulted at No. 6 singles.
The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. non-conference home match against St. Mary's.
