Shorewomen Dismiss Owls, 7-2

Kang & Weaver Improve to 10-0 at No. 2 Doubles

BRYN MAWR, PA -- Freshmen Gyeyeon Kang (Seoung Nam Si, South Korea/Westhill [CT]) and April Weaver (Perrysburg, OH/Perrysburg) improved to 10-0 at No. 2 doubles this spring as visiting Washington College defeated host Bryn Mawr College, 7-2, in a Centennial Conference women's tennis match this afternoon in Bryn Mawr, PA.

Kang and Weaver shut out Kendall Baller and Melina Koukoutchos, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles for the Shorewomen (4-6, 3-3 Centennial). Senior Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) and freshman Marielle McIntyre (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) were also winners in doubles, defeating Catherine Austin and Jenny Vogel, 8-4, at No. 1. The Owls (4-7, 0-5) got the win at No. 3 where Tirsa Delate and Rachel Genovese were 8-5 winners over senior Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and junior Amy Stevens (Street, MD/North Harford).

The Shorewomen cruised to straight-set singles victories in the top five singles matches. Weaver beat Vogel, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1, McNicol downed Koukoutchos, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2, Cohen bested Baller, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 3, Kang beat Austin, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4, and McIntyre topped Delate, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5. Bryn Mawr was a winner at No. 6 where Molly MacDougall beat Stevens, 6-0, 0-6, 10-6.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. Centennial Conference home match against nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins.
