McIntyre, Weaver Win in Both Doubles and Singles for Shorewomen
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Muhlenberg College rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play to post a 5-4 Centennial Conference women's tennis victory over host Washington College this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Mules improved to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 3-6 and 2-3 with the loss.
Senior Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) and freshman Marielle McIntyre (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) pulled out a 9-8(3) win over Nina Sanders and Emily Szulman for Washington at No. 1 doubles, while freshmen Gyeyeon Kang (Seoung Nam Si, South Korea/Westhill [CT]) and April Weaver (Perrysburg, OH/Perrysburg) downed Jennifer Goldberg and Sharen Resnikoff, 8-4, at No. 2. Amanda von Taube and Gabriela Contino picked up the Mules' doubles victory with an 8-1 victory over senior Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and junior Amy Stevens (Street, MD/North Harford) at No. 3.
In singles, Szulman was a 6-2, 6-3, winner over McNicol at No. 2, Goldberg was a 6-4, 6-1, winner over Cohen at No. 3, and Resnikoff was a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, winner over Kang at No. 4. Contino added a 6-0, 6-1, win for Muhlenberg over Stevens at No. 6. Washington got singles wins at No. 1 as Weaver cruised past Sanders, 6-0, 6-1, and at No. 5 as McIntyre downed von Taube, 6-0, 6-1.
The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Bryn Mawr.
