Weaver & Kang Improve to 7-0 with Win at No. 2 Doubles
EWING, NJ -- Host The College of New Jersey remained undefeated this season, improving to 11-0, with an 8-1 win over visiting Washington College in a non-conference women's tennis match this afternoon in Ewing, NJ. The Shorewomen fell to 3-4 on the season with the loss.
The Lions, the 12th-ranked team in the Northeast region, captured two of the three doubles matches and swept singles play. Karisse Bendijo and Allison Tierney beat senior Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) and freshman Marielle McIntyre (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom), 8-4, at No. 1 doubles, while Alex Bologno and Tara Criscuolo were 8-1 winners over senior Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and junior Amy Stevens (Street, MD/North Harford) at No. 3. Washington got the win at No. 2 doubles as freshmen Gyeyeon Kang (Seoung Nam Si, South Korea/Westhill [CT]) and April Weaver (Perrysburg, OH/Perrysburg) improved to 7-0 this spring with an 8-5 victory over Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette and Emma Allen.
Bendijo topped Weaver, 7-5, 3-6, 10-5, at No. 1 singles in the most competitive singles match of the afternoon. Muniz-Cadorette beat McNicol, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2, Allen downed Cohen, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3, and Bologno beat Kang, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 4. Sarah Lippincott topped McIntyre, 8-3, at No. 5 and Criscuolo defeated Stevens, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 to complete the win.
The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Swarthmore.
