CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Seniors Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) will serve as captains of the Washington College women's tennis team for the 2012-13 academic year, head coach David Donn announced today.
Cohen was named the team's Most Improved Player in 2011-12. She posted a 13-6 singles record last year, including a 5-3 mark at No. 3, a 2-0 record at No. 4, and a 6-1 record at No. 5. She was 12-8 in doubles, including an 11-6 record at No. 2. She also earned a share of the team's Most Improved Player Award for 2010-11. She has a career singles mark of 37-18 and a career doubles record of 28-28. Her 37 career singles wins are tops among active Shorewomen.
McNicol earned All-Centennial Conference honorable mention in singles in 2011-12, finishing 10-8 (5-6 at No. 2 and 5-2 at No. 3). She was also 11-7 in doubles last year, including an 11-6 mark playing alongside Cohen at No. 2. She earned All-Centennial Conference second-team honors in doubles and shared the team's Most Improved Player Award in 2010-11. She has a career singles record of 33-21 and a career doubles mark of 39-17. Her 39 career doubles wins are tops among active Shorewomen.
This fall, the Shorewomen will compete at the ITA Southeast Regionals, hosted by Mary Washington, from September 22nd through September 24th and at the Swarthmore Invitational, to be held October 6th and 7th. Their spring dual-match schedule starts March 2nd with a 1:00 p.m. match at Goucher.
