Shorewomen Post Shutouts in Three Singles Matches, Two Doubles Matches
WESTMINSTER, MD -- Visiting Washington College had little trouble with host McDaniel College en route to a 9-0 Centennial Conference women's tennis win this afternoon in Lancaster, PA. The Shorewomen (6-0, 2-0 Centennial) won two of the three doubles matches and three of the six singles matches by shutout.
all completed the day without dropping a single game in either singles or doubles. Finnegan and Bercovici teamed up to blank Carissa Grove and Brittany Starlings, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles. Finnegan added a 6-0, 6-0, win over Grove at No. 1 singles, while Bercovici, the Atlantic South region's eighth-ranked singles play, cruised past Starlings, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Daller, meanwhile, teamed with sophomore Amy Stevens (Street, MD/North Harford) for an 8-0 win over Laura Pollard and Elise O'Meara at No. 3 doubles and posted a 6-0, 6-0, victory against Kiersten Patron at No. 4 singles.
Elsewhere in doubles, junior Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) andjunior Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) were 8-1 winners over Patron and Hamric at No. 2. McNicol added a 6-0, 6-1, win against Hamric at No. 3 singles, while Cohen was a 6-0, 6-2, winner against Pollard at No. 5 singles. Stevens completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-3, victory over Lauren Lewis at No. 6 singles.
Finnegan, Bercovici, Daller, and Cohen each remain unbeaten in singles this spring at 6-0. Bercovici and Finnegan are also 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.
The Shorewomen, ranked seventh in the Atlantic South region. return to action Monday with a 2:30 p.m. home match against Tufts.
