Shorewomen Win Five Events, Place Fourth at Yellow Jacket Invitational

Clune, Portmann Win Two Individual Events Each

RICHMOND, Va. — The Washington College women's swim team finished fourth of 11 teams at Randolph-Macon's Yellow Jacket Invitational, held at the Collegiate School Aquatics Center in Richmond, Va., yesterday and today. Senior Jenni Clune (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) and junior Julia Portmann (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) each won two individual events and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay for the Shorewomen.

Yellow Jacket Invitational

Shorewomen Individual Highlights
- Portmann won the 500 freestyle in 5:10.00 and the 1650 freestyle in 17:51.37. She was also second in the 200 freestyle in 1:58.24. Clune, meanwhile, was first in both the 100 breaststroke (1:05.73) and 200 breaststroke (2:26.39) and her third-place time of 24.87 in the 50 freestyle made her the Shorewomen's sixth-fastest swimmer ever in that event.
- Katie Gorman placed third in the 100 freestyle in 53.93, seventh in the 50 freestyle in 25.10, and seventh in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.12. Allison Gallagher was fourth in the 200 backstroke in 2:15.28, eighth in the 400 individual medley in 4:56.48, and 14th in the 200 individual medley in 2:20.39.
- Anna Schmittle placed seventh in the 100 freestyle in 55.13, ninth in the 50 freestyle in 25.26, and ninth in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.51. Alex Searles placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.27 and ninth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.95. Maija Adourian was seventh in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.81 and 15th in the 200 backstroke in 2:23.97.
- Lindsay Wiecki placed ninth in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.61 and ninth in the 200 butterfly in 2:18.96. Tricia Markey captured 10th in the 500 freestyle in 5:23.71, 10th in the 1650 freestyle in 18:56.97, and 15th in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.43.
- Emma Silber was 12th in the 100 freestyle in 56.37, while Bailey Reigel placed 14th in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.47. Savannah Quade took 14th in the 200 backstroke in 2:22.91 and 16th in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.82.

Shorewomen Relay Highlights
- Clune, Portmann, Schmittle, and Gorman won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:37.27.
- Gorman, Schmittle, Markey, and Portmann were second in the 800 freestyle relay in 8:04.16.
- Schmittle, Gorman, Silber, and Clune placed third in the 200 freestyle in 1:40.38.
- Adourian, Clune, Wiecki, and Gorman took third in the 400 medley relay in 4:02.57.
- Adourian, Clune, Wiecki, and Schmittle were fourth in the 200 medley relay in 1:51.96. 

Notes
- Catholic finished first in the women's team standings (1,307 points), followed by Catawba (1,186), Randolph-Macon (1,082), the Shorewomen (1,074), Howard (921), St. Mary's (740), Barton (706), Marymount (547), Bridgewater (313), Hollins (155), and Guilford (60).
