Miskiel Wins Two Medals as Shorewomen Compete at Centennial Championships

LANCASTER, PA -- Junior Ellie Miskiel (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) won two medals to lead the Washington College women's swim team at the Centennial Conference Championships held Friday, yesterday, and today at Franklin & Marshall College. The Shorewomen finished seventh of eight teams in the overall point standings at the event.

Miskiel won gold in the 200 breaststroke in a Washington College season-best 2:24.98 to become the Shorewomen's second-fastest swimmer ever in that event.  She won bronze in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.26 to become the Shorewomen's third-fastest swimmer ever in that event. She also was 16th in the 50 freestyle in 25.48 after swimming a WC season-best 25.40 in the preliminaries and swam a 55.15 lead-off leg in the 400 freestyle relay to become the Shorewomen's eighth-fastest swimmer ever in the 100 freestyle.  

Sophomore Alicia Howard (Wilmington, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) placed sixth in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.36 after swimming a WC season-best 1:01.30 in the preliminaries to become the Shorewomen's third-fastest swimmer ever in the event. In the 200 backstroke, she placed seventh in a WC season-best 2:14.64 become the Shorewomen's ninth-fastest swimmer ever in that event.

Freshman Julianna Fritzinger (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion Area) finished eighth in the 400 individual medley in 4:55.77 after swimming a WC season-best 4:51.14 in the preliminaries to become the Shorewomen's eighth-fastest swimmer ever in that event. In the 200 breaststroke, she placed 14th in 2:33.75 to become the Shorewomen's ninth-fastest swimmer ever in that event. In the 100 breastroke, she placed 13th in 1:12.66.

Junior Carly Ogren (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) finished 12th in the 100 freestyle in a WC season-best 55.02 to tie her as the Shorewomen's sixth-fastest swimmer ever in that event. She placed 14th in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.02 after swimming a WC season-best 1:59.81 in the preliminaries to become the Shorewomen's eighth-fastest swimmer ever in the event. In the 500 freestyle, Ogren swam a WC season-best 5:23.18 in the preliminaries to finish 17th overall. 

Senior Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest) placed 16th in the 200 butterfly in a WC season-best 2:20.66.  She also swam a WC season-best time in the 100 butterfly preliminaries, finishing 22nd overall in 1:04.92.

Sophomore Ashley Maurizi (Reamstown, PA/Cocalico) added an 11th-place finish in the 1650 freestyle in 18:50.09.

Gettysburg captured the overall team championship.
