Jackovitz, Miskiel, Sykes Chosen as Women's Swimming Captains

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Head coach Kim Lessard has announced that Emma Jackovitz (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air), Ellie Miskiel (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard), and Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest) will serve as captains of the Washington College women's swimming team for the 2012-13 academic year.  

Jackovitz, who will be a senior this fall, is one of the Shorewomen's top butterfly swimmers. She has twice placed in the 200 butterfly and once placed in the 100 butterfly at Centennial Conference Championship meets. She also finished ninth in the 400 medley at the 2010 Conference Championships.

Miskiel, who will be a junior this fall and is the team's reigning MVP,  is the Shorewomen's third-fastest swimmer ever in the 200 breaststroke, sixth-fastest in the 100 breaststroke, eighth-fastest in the 50 freestyle, and ninth-fastest in the 100 freestyle. She finished fourth in both breaststroke events and placed 13th in the 200 individual medley at the 2012 Centennial Conference Championships.

Sykes is a returning captain and will be a senior this fall. She was named the team's Most Improved Swimmer for 2011-12 and was named to the 2011 Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll. She is the Shorewomen's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in the 500 and 1650 freestyles, eighth-fastest ever in the 1000 freestyle, and 10th-fastest ever in the 400 individual medley and 200 butterfly. She is also a member of the school-record 800 freestyle relay team, winning a gold medal and All-Centennial Conference first-team honors in the event at the 2010 Centennial Conference Championships. She has placed in individual events nine teams at Centennial Conference Championship meets.

The Shorewomen will open their 2012-13 season November 3rd with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Gettysburg.
