Swarthmore Swims Past Shorewomen, 123-77
Maurizi Places Second in Two Individual Events
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Swarthmore College defeated host Washington College, 123-77, in Centennial Conference women's swimming tonight inside Casey Swim Center.
Freshman Ashley Maurizi (Reamstown, PA/Cocalico) placed second in both the 200 freestyle in 2:07.80 and the 500 freestyle in 5:40.94 in the loss for the Shorewomen. Junior Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NJ/Northern-Valley Demarest) added a second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle in a Washington College season-best time of 11:37.83 and also swam a WC season-best time in the 200 butterfly, placing fourth in 2:26.14.
Sophomore Elizabeth Miskiel (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) touched the wall second in the 200 breaststroke in a WC season-best time of 2:32.73, but received the first-place points as Swarthmore entered the event as exhibitions only. Miskiel also swam a WC season-best 2:20.80 in the 200 individual medley to place third.
Sophomore Hilary Badger (Baltimore, MD/Mount de Sales) took second place in the 50 freestyle in 26.20. She also swam the lead-off leg of Washington's 400 freestyle relay, which placed second in 3:58.99, but received the first-place points due to Swarthmore entering the event as exhibitions only. She was joined on the relay by Sykes, Maurizi, and freshman Alicia Howard (Wilmington, DE/Charter School of Wilmington).
The Shorewomen (3-6 overall, 1-4 Centennial) return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Ursinus.
