GETTYSBURG, PA -- Washington College senior swimmer Rachel Glasser (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) was named the Most Outstanding Performer for the third consecutive year after winning gold in three individual events at the 2011 Centennial Conference Championships, held Friday through today at Gettysburg College. Glasser also swam on two gold medal-winning relay teams and two silver medal-winning relay teams. Junior Jenna Moore (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) added a gold-medal finish in the 100 breaststroke for the Shorewomen, who finished seventh of eight teams overall.
Glasser won the 500 freestyle in a meet- and pool-record time of 4:57.35, which was also an NCAA Division III Championship automatic qualifying time. She won the 200 freestyle in a school-, meet-, and pool-record time of 1:52.33, which was also an NCAA Division III Championship provisional qualifying time. Glasser joins Franklin & Marshall alum Carmen Trombini as the second woman in conference history to be named the meet's Most Outstanding Performer at least three times. Trombini earned honor four consecutive years from 1995 to 1998.
Glasser will compete at the NCAA Division III Championships March 23rd-26th in Knoxville, TN. She had previously qualified for the event in December. Moore will await word on whether her provisional qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke will be fast enough for her to join Glasser there.
Gettysburg won the 2011 Centennial Conference Women's Swimming Championship, followed by Franklin & Marshall in second and Swarthmore in third.
