Shorewomen Win Division III Varsity Eight in Close Finish at Knecht Cup

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. — The Washington College women's rowing team's first varsity eight won the grand final of the Division III women's varsity eight in an exciting three-way finish at the Knecht Cup, held on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J., today. The Shorewomen's second varsity eight also competed in the event.

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen's first and second varsity eights raced in the same heat, with the first varsity eight posting a winning time of 7:19.13 to advance to the grand final and the second varsity eight finishing fifth in 8:08.35 to progress to the petite final. Marietta was second in 7:27.54, Franklin & Marshall's second varsity eight third in 7:58.04, and NYU fourth in 7:58.12.
- In the grand final, the first varsity eight edged out Franklin & Marshall's first varsity eight by winning the race in 7:02.61 to F&M's 7:03.76. Marietta was third in 7:05.33. Bryn Mawr's first varsity eight was fourth in 7:19.31, Franklin & Marshall's second varsity eight fifth in 7:53.52, and Carnegie Mellon sixth in 8:13.90.
- In the petite final, the second varsity eight placed third in 8:13.78. NYU won the race in 7:57.60, followed by Susquehanna in second in 8:09.14. Bryn Mawr's second varsity eight was fourth in 8:23.14, while The College of New Jersey was fifth  in 8:37.23.

Notes
- This was the third head-to-head race between the first varsity eights from Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference rivals Washington and F&M. The Diplomats won the first meeting and crossed the finish line first, but were disqualified in the second meeting.
