CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Washington College head women's lacrosse coach Julika Blankenship has named senior attacker Sarah Cannon (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep), junior midfielder/defender Ann Eickelberg (Amityville, NY/St. John the Baptist), junior defender Brooke Paulshock (Forest Hill, MD/C. Milton Wright), and junior midfielder Caroline Stanley (Freeland, MD/Hereford) as the team's captains for the 2010-11 academic year.
"I am so excited about our four captains for the 2010-11 lacrosse season," remarked Blankenship. "They are such a close, cohesive group and their relationship really reflects how close our whole team is this year. I one-hunded percent believe that that closeness is going to translate to success on the field. "We already had a great fall outing last weekend and we have two more weeks of fall play."
Cannon, who is the team's lone senior, has started all 46 games for the Shorewomen since the beginning of her freshman season and is consistently among the team's leading scorers. She has scored 48 goals and assisted on 47 others.
Eickelberg, who transferred to Washington after a semester at the University of Tampa, has scored three goals and assisted on another in 11 career games. She holds various leadership positions on campus and should compete for more playing time in 2011.
Paulshock earned a spot on the All-Centennial Conference second team and was named the Shorewomen's Most Valuable Player in 2010. She started all 15 games last year, finishing tied for second on the team in draw controls (26), third in ground balls (25), and third in caused turnovers (12). She also started the first nine games of her freshman year before her season was cut short by an injury.
Stanley started all 15 games as a sophomore and earned a place on the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll. In 29 career games, she has totaled three goals, three assists, 15 caused turnovers, and 21 ground balls.
The Washington College women's lacrosse team went 8-7 in 2010, posting its first winning record in six years. Eight starters return from that team.
