Shorewomen Power Past Red Devils, 73-63
Pledger Tallies 11th Double-Double of Season
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Sophomore forward/center Latisha Pledger (Chesapeake, VA/Indian River) recorded her 11th double-double of the season, tallying 16 points and a game-best 13 rebounds, as host Washington College defeated visiting Dickinson, 73-63, in a Centennial Conference women's basketball game this afternoon inside Cain Athletic Center. The 73 points for the Shorewomen (12-9, 7-9 Centennial) are a season-high.
Washington never trailed in the game, leading by as many as 12 points in the first half and taking a 40-35 lead into the intermission, despite the Red Devils (2-19, 2-14) shooting 55% from the field in the first period. The Shorewomen extended the lead to as many as 17 points in the second half, holding Dickinson to 33% shooting over the final 20 minutes.
Six of Pledger's 13 rebounds came on the offensive end. Senior guard Sally O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) added a game-best 17 points to go along with five assists, six rebounds, and two blocks. Senior guard Meghan Tait (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) put in another outstanding all-around game for Washington, scoring 13 points, grabbing 10 boards, dishing out a game-best eight assists, and swiping three steals. Sophomore forward Liz Warkala (New York, NY/Marymount School of New York) scored nine of her career-high 11 points in the first half.
Dana Walsh paced Dickinson with 13 points, while Alexis Friedlander scored 13 points of her own off the bench. Belma Mekic and Bridget Borgese added 12 points each for the Red Devils.
Washington held a 41-32 advantage on the boards in the game and dished out 20 assists against 12 turnovers.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Swarthmore.
