Softball Names Three Captains For 2012

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Washington College softball head coach Lacey Lister has named her three captains for the 2012 season.  Senior Sally Snover (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park) and juniors Shaelan Nottingham (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur) and Brittany Walter (Forest Hill, MD/C. Milton Wright) will serve as the trio of captains for the Shorewomen this spring.  Snover is a captain for the fourth straight season, while Nottingham and Walter are captains for the first time.

Snover, a third baseman, batted a career-best .299 in 2011 while drawing a school-record 26 walks.  The 26 walks also led the Centennial Conference.  She scored a team-high 25 runs and led the squad with a .438 on-base percentage.  Snover, who had 21 RBI as a junior, has started in all 111 games for the Shorewomen and has six home runs, 66 RBI and a .290 batting average in her career.

Nottingham, a second baseman, belted her first career home run in 2011 at Stevenson on April 25.  She had career-highs in runs scored (24), walks (10) and stolen bases (4).  She has started in all 74 games since arriving at Washington College and is batting .249 with one home run and 26 RBI.  She has scored 36 runs, recorded 54 hits and is a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen bases.

Walter, a pitcher and outfielder, was named the team's Most Improved Player last spring.  In the circle, she set the school's strikeout record in the circle with 77 and went 9-10 with a 4.15 ERA while tossing 10 complete games.  At the plate, she hit a career high .300 with 21 RBI and 33 hits in 2011.  In her career she is 15-21 with a 4.07 ERA in 218.1 innings with 140 strikeouts.  She is fifth all-time at Washington in strikeouts.
