Shoremen Sweep Doubles

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Visiting Washington College, ranked 20th in the Atlantic South region, swept doubles play en route to a 7-2 Centennial Conference men's tennis victory over host Muhlenberg College this afternoon in Allentown, Pa. The Shoremen improved to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play with the win, while the Mules fell to 1-4 and 0-2 with the loss.

The Shoremen won all three doubles matches by at least four games. Junior Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) and senior Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [Fla.]) beat Jason Teitelbaum and Daniel Lakham, 8-3, at No. 1, junior Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) and freshman Jeremy Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) bested Eric Chavis and David Woods, 8-2, at No. 2, and senior Joel Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) and freshman Zachary Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) defeated Ben Berkowitz and Derrick Eng, 8-4, at No. 3.

Washington added wins at second, third, fifth, and sixth singles. Cywinski got the better of Teitelbaum, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2, Joel Novick downed Berkowitz, 7-6(7), 1-6, 6-0, at No. 3, Jeremy Novick defeated Woods, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5, and Zachary Novick bested Eng, 1-6, 6-2, 10-4, at No. 6. Lakham won at No. 1 for the Mules when Rajes retired in the first set, while Chavis defeated Holtschneider, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4. 

The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Ursinus.
