Fords Foil Shoremen, 7-2
Cywinski Wins in Singles & Doubles
CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Visiting Haverford College, ranked 13th in the Atlantic South region, defeated host Washington College, the region's 20th ranked team, 7-2, in a Centennial Conference men's tennis match this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center.
The Fords (6-3, 3-0 Centennial) won the first two doubles matches to finish to take a 2-0 lead. Harrison Elbert and Matt Romei topped junior Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) and freshman Corey Pippin (Aberdeen, Md./New Covenant Christian School), 8-2, at No. 2, while Andy Dougherty and Devin Van Dyke bested senior Joel Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) and freshman Zachary Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township), 8-0, at No. 3. The Shoremen (4-5, 1-2) got on the board with an 8-6 win by junior Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) and senior Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [Fla.]) against Luis Acaba and Sloan Millman at No. 1.
Acaba led off singles with a 6-0, 6-2, victory over Rajes at No. 1. John Cummings followed with a 6-0, 6-3, win against Pippin at No. 6 and Robert Homan clinched the match for Haverford when he completed a 6-3, 6-2, win against Zachary Novick at No. 5. Romei tacked on a 6-3, 6-1, win against Holtschneider at No. 3, before Cywinski recorded a 6-4, 7-6(5), victory against Zack Mason at No. 2 for the Shoremen's second point. Dougherty's 6-2, 7-5, win over Joel Novick at No. 4 provided the final margin.
The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Muhlenberg.
